4. Ongoing and Planned Courses Based on
ILIAS Services at Dennis Gabor
College
An experimental
e-learning training was started in the academic year 2005/06, first
semester, where training was based on the L(C)MS services.
Students received the traditional
distance learning package and access to ILIAS learning modules. They
also meet the teachers for real life and online consultations and
tutoring.
-
Students participate computer lab
practices in the Consultation Center (CC).
-
Students may sit in to exam
preparation consultations at the CC, preparing for more difficult
subjects, e.g. mathematics problem solving.
-
Active mentoring: observing student
activity with user tracking, checking their study process, notifications
for missing tasks, etc.
-
Students can take mock-exams giving
automatic results, checking their preparedness.
-
ILIAS practices (digital homework)
are worth extra
scores which boost up the final mark (not enough for pass, but can add 30%
to the final mark).
-
Tutoring during the active period of
the subject in the forums.
-
Administrative support on the online
forums from the mentors. Mentors organize consultations, practices, follow
student activity, assist teachers.
Students who chose the
experimental e-learning training in the upcoming semester of the
academic year 2005/2006 are managed in two groups using the
experiences of the previous semester.
Practical experiences proved that the
training methodology was suitable for the purpose. The applied model can be
utilized with minor corrections in next year's BSc
training.
