3. Introducing ILIAS at Dennis
Gabor College
GDF started a project in 2003 to sum up and compare e-learning
services with GDF organizational tasks and content development then
chose the functions if the LMS and LCMS to be inserted into the college's
distance learning system.
Practical testing of development plans was realized in a
pilot system with 5 learning modules and 110 students during a one-month
experimental e-learning education in 2003.
The GDF ILIAS e-learning framework functions on a
regular basis since the academic year 2004/2005. It serves the Budapest
institutions of GDF and the countrywide Consultation Centers.
Important tasks preceding the introduction:

Development process of e-Learning modules', in-house standards;

Organization of new procedures of study/teaching in practice:

new tasks (e.g.. internet tutor,
content developer, etc.);

harmonizing ILIAS
authorizations and GDF job descriptions;
-
new teaching possibilities:
e. g. self-assessment tests;

old possibilities in a new
form: anonymous course evaluations
-
Designing
and filling the repository;
-
Glossaries by topics;
-
Organizing
teacher and student training countrywide;
-
Design of
ILIAS-authorizations, uploading user data, forwarding passwords;

Design of
a reliable operating system, high speed internet and server park with a
back-up system, test and productive system;
-
Design and
maintenance the Hungarian version of ILIAS.
ILIAS is introduced in an ascending
system.
Starts with the modules and students of the 2004/2005
academic year continues with the next semesters.
Higher level students if interested may receive a login
name individually.
